WeHaveAFace Canada Supports Nova Scotia Hospice at The Port Pub

Eighty percent of us want to die at home but only twenty percent of us get our wish to do so. While hospitals do their best to maintain a peaceful and private atmosphere for our loved ones that are passing and their families it is not always possible. Hospitals are busy, and simply lacking in regards to a home like situation. That is simply not what they were designed to do.

Many regions simply do not have any other alternatives. Such is the case in the Annapolis Valley of Nova Scotia, but the community here is working to change that, and ground has been broken for a new hospice facility; the first of its kind in the area. Hard working individuals at the Valley Hospice Foundation have been very busy over the last few years to raise the money, which is being cost shared with the provincial government to build the valley's first hospice, but they still need help.

Many businesses in the area have stepped up to help including The Port Pub and Bistro in Port Williams, Nova Scotia. This year The Port, as it is affectionately known as, will host the 2nd Annual Hopping for Hospice event on Saturday, June 23, which features a great night out at the Port Pub. The event begins at 8 pm with a Roast Beef Nosh and then dancing on the deck to the Al King Band at 9 pm.

WeHaveAFace Canada President, Cindy Moore of Brockville, Ontario acknowledged the importance of the hospice in the area as a necessity for the Huntington's Disease community that lives in the region as well as the population as a whole. "We try, whenever we can to help our HD families in times of crisis and although money is tight, this is something we need to support."

Kevin Jess, Vice President of WeHaveAFace Canada and an employee of The Port Pub said, "HD families are no strangers to end of life planning and this hospice will give our community more peace of mind."

Tickets to the event are $50 and can be purchased at The Port Pub or by calling 902.679.3471.

Last year was a hopping good time so try to get out this year and support your community.
